Mommy all the way....all day.....right to the end.

What do you get when you combine two little girls, cupcakes, and lots of toy...........well of course lots of smiles.
Our poor little friend was diagnosed with pneumonia and a double ear infection a few days ago, so she was not willing to smile as much as I wanted.  Olivia however, was happy to be with her "best friend"!  By the way, she is talking to "daddy" on the phone, and we also called Avery's mom.

Oh my afternoon got even better, I babysat the brother for the afternoon, while mommy took Avery to the doctor yet again.  Garrett is actually Nicolas' best friend.  Now you know the whole story.  Believe me the kids fell into bed tonight, and Olivia fell asleep in the car, once we surprised them with a trip to Baskin Robbins.  It was a well deserved caloric intake! The kids were more then excited to look at the fireman and firetruck.

Way too many things going on here....

Oh the sweetness of summer.  The kids never get enough watermelon.  The bigger the slice the happier the faces.

This week is going to be a wild one for me.  Today I sat at the Honda dealership for two hours waiting to get the car fixed.  A pure pleasure.  However, it does always give me the time to read, and since they have a huge 50" Flat screen TV, I was also updated on the news.    Most of it seemed shocking to me.  However, yes I did spend an hour reading a great book.  Really great info regarding photographing children, and some beautiful photos to see.  I am thoroughly enjoying this read.

Once that was done, I swung by Joann's to pick up some fabric that I needed.  Well, actually I bought some more of that blue and white print to make a top for my niece.  Her birthday is coming soon, so I wanted to make her some cute outfits.  In the process I found this.
Did you know that JA carries Ralph Lauren Home Decorating fabrics?  This is the perfect denim weight, and it does not wrinkle, so I cannot wait to make a pair of pants out of this or maybe a skirt for Olivia.

I needed white denim for my nieces outfit, and found this lovely flower fabric.  Combined with my orange and white polka dot fabric, this will be cute.

If there is one meal I skip each day it is lunch.  Why?  Because I can never think of anything good to eat.  This book was $5 at checkout.  Marked down, and the recipes look delicious.

So tomorrow I am babysitting the two girls on the photo I posted yesterday.  I am either going to take them to the bookstore, or I will take a bikeride with both of them.  Whatever we do, it will be fun.  In the meantime, my friend will get to spend the morning with her son, and maybe get an hour to herself (much needed).  Just like me, her husband is off working in another state, and unlike me her daughter only goes to daycare twice a week.  So she has her hands full.   Thursday I have another appointment.  Friday I have a field trip with my son's school.  Busy, busy, busy.  However Saturday...if everything goes well, we will head to the beach and have a FUN day.

Oh, I almost forgot.  I finished these pants tonight.  Another fabric from JA that I bought last year.  However, I saw it again today.  I used the same japanese pants pattern that I used here (http://kinderkouture.blogspot.com/2010/04/ottobre-and-japanese-pants.html).  Perfect fit, and I love the length.

Organizing Tip

Use Pegboard in the Closet and more decorating ideas, organizing tips, and homekeeping and cleaning solutions on marthastewart.com
Pegboard keeps items off the floor, in sight, and within reach. The board is sold in large sheets; have it cut to size, or use a circular saw or jigsaw. Place furring strips (thin pieces of wood) between the board and wall, so you'll have room for the backs of hooks.

Great idea Martha.

Sewing is addictive.....

I have been rather tired this week.  Although I got 9.5 hours of sleep yesterday, my mood was no better, and my energy levels were horrible.  I am working out, and I know this is not PMS.  So, what is it?  My conclusion:  I want to sew.  I don't want to clean or do laundry.  I don't want to go out with the kids and play.  Nope all I want to do is sew.  It is then, that I shut down, and refuse to be productive because I want to be selfish.  Seriously, sewing is addictive.  I always find when I start a sewing project, I get like this.  I just want to finish it.  Last night in bed, I thought about it.  I have to learn to multitask my sewing.  It should not be a problem because I multitask all day long.  I clean and think about what is for dinner.  I make beds, and put a load of wash in at the same time.  I fold laundry and iron.  So why can't I clean and sew at the same time?  Once, I cut out a pattern, and it is sitting on my table, I find myself drawn to my sewing room all the time.  I leave the dishes in the sink, the vacuum parked in the kitchen, and everything is ignored.  Taking the car to the dealership is dropped, and everything else important, and I mean really important is just ignored.  Bad, addictive behavior, and I have to change it.  I think that is why I go weeks without sewing.  Guilt overcomes me when I sew.  I cannot seriously consider sewing when I know it is time to feed the kids.  Yes I do.  That is when I start biting at my nails, and I know the feeling that is about to take over this body.  Sounds incredibly silly doesn't it?  So, today I am about to make the first change, and although I have pants cut out for Olivia, I will not sew until my dishes are washed, and I have done something fun with the kids.  Let's see if it works.

Did I honestly say I was in good shape?  No, well that is good, because we took a bike ride around 11:30am, and it whooped my butt.  No lie.  I was pouring sweat - so much so that I could not see the road anymore, and my thighs were killing me.  No wonder I keep gaining weight.  Time to increase the pace, and move a bit more then I have been doing.  I was wiped out.  I was in pain.  I was exhausted.  Of course, it did not help that my tires needed air and I was pulling Olivia along behind me.  Her comment "Mommy, I am not tired at all!"  LOL.  No, I cannot imagine that you would be sweetie, and Nicolas answered "No Olivia, you just enjoyed ride".

So my dishes are clean, and the house looks pretty good.  Dinner is cooked, and homework is finished.  I have enjoyed this beautiful sunny day outside with the kids, and now I get to enjoy my sewing project and sewing machines.  Here is a small idea of what I am working on....

I intend on making these shorts for Nicolas out of a few denim pieces I have.  He is absolutely in love with the guitar shirt, so that is also something I have to make.  The shirt is for Olivia.  I love the fabric they used in the magazine, but I think I have something else that will fit the picture.  I also have an idea for a 4th of July dress.  I want to get moving on that one soon so I can sell a few of them in my Etsy Shop.  Day 1# of my multitasking addictive behavior went well.  Lets see how I do during this week.  By the way, I am still tired.  What could it be?

Ottobre and Japanese Pants

Things that made me smile today....
- sleeping a lot longer then I should
- it is raining outside, thank goodness
- finishing up the above outfit
- a fantastic fitting pant pattern for toddlers
- a great dinner
- cupcakes for desert.

It's raining outside, and I am loving it.  It has been almost six weeks since we have last seen the rain.  It's been promised, but nothing ever came.  The yard, the flowers, and my car needed a cleansing.  The pollen needed to disappear.  For the first time, Nicolas woke up not coughing.  What a relief.  I also love the fact that we are forced to stay home.  I have been so tired, and all day I finally had an excuse to say "No, honey we can't go bike riding" or "No honey, no beach today".  LOL.  I was able to lounge in a pair of pants, no make-up, and just do little things without having to get into the car and drive.  What a relief.  I needed it.

So, this is the finished outfit.  I love it.  I introduced the shirt here (http://kinderkouture.blogspot.com/2010/04/feeling-blue.html) and decided to try a japanese pattern for the pants.  I finally can use their smallest size, and oh it was a perfect fit.  I love this pattern.  I had enough room for a large waistband, no gaping, and the length was perfect.  This is a size 80.
I used a stretch denim that I bought somewhere for myself.  I decided to applique a large flower (actually three of them) on top of the pants with a button in the middle.  As you can see it is a perfect fit.  The picture on the top left is cover of the japanese sewing book I used.  I will have to check what other patterns we could make from this lovely book.
