Playroom, Park, Pizza, and a Picnic

Whew, finally the kids are sleeping and I feel as if I can take a nice deep breath.  It's amazing how a busy schedule and two kids can make you feel like a basket case.  I have a to-do list a mile long, and with both kids at home dumping their belongings all over the house, I am getting nowhere fast.  I finally exploded at about 11am, and told them both to clean their playroom.    Of course, I could talk to the wall and would probably feel better about it.  I am seriously thinking about doing away with the playroom.  Selling the bigger toys, like the kitchen and the dollhouse, and giving myself a nice guestroom.  At least I know it would stay relatively clean.  At least I would hope so.  Their rooms on the other hand, would probably stay dirty most of the time, and all I would seriously accomplish is to shift one disaster to another area.  Right?  I have no solution, and the older they get, the more frustrated I get with the both of them and their cleaning habits.

Frustrated, and angry, I decided to take them to the park, in the hopes that I would get a little down time, while the two of them played.  HA!  No make that a double HA!  Olivia clung to my leg for the first 30 minutes, until she saw Nicolas get into the water.  At that point she decided to laugh and have fun with her older brother, but I had to run up and down the riverbank just to make sure she would not fall in.  She did.  Of course.  She was sopping wet in no time, and thank goodness, I kept an extra set of clothing in the car.  So all ended well.

After that we decided to hit K-mart and buy a small swimming pool.  They do enjoy the water so much.  Instead I walked out with a new bike, and an infant trailer.  I have always wanted one, and since this week is my birthday week, why should I not treat myself again.  Yes again.  I recently upgraded my camera.  I love the pictures, and I am very excited with all the new functions this camera can perform.  I bought the Canon 7D.  It also can take videos, and believe it or not, I have not even tried that function yet.

Next came a call to Hungry Howies for some pizza.  The kids and I were starving at this point.  We could not wait to just attack this pizza.  YUM.  It was so beautiful outside we planned on having a small picnic.

The day turned out very nice, because we met friends during the morning hours and spent time with friends in the afternoon.   Nothing was planned, and nothing was accomplished, except the smiling faces.  Tomorrow will be a different story.  Olivia has to go to school, and although Nicolas will be bored for the morning hours, I promised them a bikeride as soon she comes home.  I just felt a sudden pain in my thighs.  OUCH!  I am not sure what will hurt worse, the amount of cleaning I have to do, or the bike ride.

Another 90 days....

Another goodbye.  Lance left this morning, and although this is our third round of goodbyes since last year it just does not get any easier.  We manage to keep them short, allowing the kids to watch tv in the car, so they barely notice him or the airport.  Or is it just because they know now that he is definitely coming back that they make no big deal out of it.  Whatever the case, I kept myself busy all day so I would not think about him.  The weather helps me stay in a good mood.  I sat outside with my son and ate lunch on the patio.  Then I cleaned, and picked up Olivia.  The moment she jumped out of the car, she went running to the front door and rang the doorbell.  This has become a new habit of hers ever since he arrived.  She always knew that one of us was home to open the door.  She finally gave up and walked through the garage door, asked me where daddy was, and when I told her that he had gone bye-bye, she started to cry.  I knew it was not going to be easy for her.  She enjoys having both of her parents there at all times.  She knows she can always turn to one of us in a time of crisis, and boy oh boy do 3 year olds have a lot of crises.   LOL.  I bought the kids some cupcakes knowing what was going to happen.  A mom should be prepared for the worst, and I knew I had to keep them smiling for most of the day.  Soon, they will get used to things the way it was.  Soon.

At least I know that this year will be different, and I will be able to see him every three months. Somehow this thought, makes it feel like he will be here again before I know it.

I Heart Faces B&W Photo Challenge

Olivia is three. Each year she displays certain characteristics that I think shape her character. Being three, she tends to show her horns. When she does not get what she wants, she whines, she gets angry and then she sulks. I think it is important to catch these moments whenever possible. I consider her sulking a way of dealing with her emotions and gaining control of herself. No matter what, she does look cute.

My dramatic b&w for I Heart faces.

Inspiration: Oilcloth Apron For A Little Painter

Astrid did a beautiful job on this apron, and posted all her info and links on her blog. She got the free apron tutorial and pattern at Sew Liberated.

I need a few of these for the kids too, especially with Spring right around the corner.

Happy Easter Dress

We are almost there.  I am almost finished with this dress.  It is beautiful, but the last minute changes I am about to make will make it even better.  I had to get her to try it on for a last minute fitting.  So why not take pictures right?

The front V-neck is a bit too open for me, and the dress is somewhat big for her scrawny little shoulders, but I have an idea on how to fix that.

The material is from the Nicey Jane collection, and I absolutely love it.  The quality is beautiful and the print is charming.

I love the fact that the skirt is cut on the bias and not gathered.  It lies so much nicer on the body.

My personal favorite shot.  My little devil being herself.

fun with no sun...

Things that made me smile today....
- almost finishing Olivia's Easter Dress
- Olivia feeling better
- making a friend feel special
- watching the kids make the best out of a rainy day.

No I did not get the house clean, although I did manage to wash and fold two loads of laundry.  I should have cleaned the house, because it needs it, but I so desperately wanted to finish Olivia's Easter Dress.  I managed to go grocery shopping, and I also managed to finish most of the dress.  By the time both kids were home all I needed to do was finish the hem.  However, I ran into a problem.  I had sewn the underskirt on backwards, so the seams were showing.  Yeah!  I really needed that after all that handsewing.   Oh well, I will think of a solution, and come up with something.  Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to post pictures.

After dinner, the kids went outside in the foggy air, and decided to play in the mud and make some of their own.  Rainboots on the wrong feet, sassy and jumping in the puddles, Olivia had a great time.  These pictures were taken with my friends 85mm lens.  It is the first time I have been able to get some great shots out of this lens.  I like the clarity.  Obviously Olivia is feeling much better, but daddy-o is still fighting the virus and will most likely be in bed right up until his flight next week.

Happy Day.....Sort of.....

I was ok with the fact that he had appointments all day
and the kids were in school
and I was alone for most of the day.

I did not expect a visit from Olivia at 1am in the morning,
and her high fever.
Nor was I prepared to stay up most of the night.

I greeted hubby after his first appt. with a smile, only to look
at a very white face that cringed with each step.
I did not get a kiss hello or a "Hey Honey everything
went well".  Instead I got a
"cancel all the appointments.....please".

My plans for sewing and cleaning up
disappeared in the wind.
Instead I held onto the little one all day,
got nothing done,
and even the pictures I took did not transfer to my computer.

Here is hoping tomorrow will better then today.
Olivia was feeling much better tonight.
I am headed towards the sewing machine,
and both kids are sleeping soundly.
